FTX Customers Plagued by Issues Months After Exchange Shutdown

Several months after the crypto exchange FTX shut down, customers are still facing issues. A new phishing attack on FTX-registered emails has been reported, and personal information such as account balances, phone numbers, and home addresses of customers have been leaked. This attack also affected Kroll, the claims agent in the bankruptcy proceedings, as well as other bankrupt crypto firms Genesis and lender BlockFi.

You have been identified as an eligible client to begin withdrawing digital assets from your FTX account, an email sent to several FTX creditors read. Withdrawals will be dispatched in USDC matched to the balance of digital assets held in your wallet at the time of platform pause. The email then asked customers to connect a crypto wallet to the account in order to receive the lost capital.

This phishing attack is likely to drain token holdings, as it will likely request private key data to conduct the transfer. SIM swapping, which happens when scammers contact a mobile phone’s carrier and trick them into activating a SIM card that the fraudsters have, is also a concern.

On Saturday, FTX said it had taken a precautionary measure of temporarily freezing affected user accounts within the customer claims portal.
