Reddit has released its largest expansion to date of its limited-edition non-fungible token (NFT) collection, the Gen 4 Collectible Avatar series. Titled Retro Reimagined, the colorful release features reinterpretations of the platform’s iconic Snoo character, designed by 100 independent artists and popular NFT collections like Cool Cats. The Polygon-based NFTs range in price from $2.49 to $199.99.
In order to ensure a smoother rollout, Reddit has implemented anti-bot measures such as CAPTCHA and an initial access period for the first day of the release. This period looks at account age and other metrics to limit the number of collectibles that can be purchased in one swoop, with a maximum of $1,000. After the initial access period ends, these restrictions will be lifted, though a $3,000 daily purchase limit will remain.
Since its launch on digital wallet Vault in July, Reddit’s NFT marketplace has welcomed millions into its ecosystem. According to data from Dune Analytics, there are over 14.2 million unique holders of Reddit Avatars, with a $57 million market cap and over 18 million collectible avatars in circulation.
These purchase constraints are meant to act as an extra layer of protection against bad actors and bad bots, a Reddit admin wrote.
